COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS, Combating Extremism event series takes place at Brooklyn Law School on April 16
April 16 @ 6:00 pm
In a time when our communities feel more polarized than ever, Tanenbaum’s Combating Extremism campaign is hosting an interactive panel as part of an event series entitled Courageous Conversations in order to put resources for respectful communications into practice.
In our increasingly multicultural world, what drives someone to extremist views? How does a person find a pathway to civil conversation with those with whom they disagree? How do we proactively find those who differ from us and then have respectful and open conversations?
Former white supremacist Arno Michaelis, former Muslim supremacist Mubin Shaikh, and Director of Global Programming for Seeds of Peace Kiran Thadhani will discuss the power of communication in its various forms, and how communication can push or pull people toward and away from extremism.
Moderated by Tanenbaum CEO Joyce Dubensky, this program will examine the ways in which communication and personal contact are critical for building inclusive communities. Following the panel discussion, participants will break out into smaller groups to practice their own Courageous Conversations and plan for conversations in their communities.
