Culture Forward: A Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival
Kicking off the festivities, Gotham Market at The Ashland will host a launch party on Friday, October 13 at 6pm. On Saturday, October 14, BRIC andDBP will host a concert at an exciting new public space – The Steps at 300 Ashland. The concert will feature world class talent as part of the BRIC Jazzfest. DBP’s original programming will also include Joel Barhamand’s photography exhibition Meet Me Downtown at the 80 Arts building – which will be digitally tied in with exhibits at the Brooklyn Historical Society, BRIC, and the New York Transit Museum’s From Fulton Ferry: Building Downtown Brooklyn exhibit, by travel adventure developer Vamonde’s interactive Fulton to Fulton tour app, which will guide visitors through location-based stories via images, videos, and words.

The BRIC JazzFest brings some of the most exciting global legends in jazz and groundbreaking emerging artists to Brooklyn for live performances, film, and panel discussions. This outdoor concert at Downtown Brooklyn’s newest outdoor space will feature world class talent to be announced in October.

St. Ann’s Warehouse | Performances: The American premiere of Olivier Award-winning People, Places & Things.
BRIC | The BRIC Jazzfest and the Brooklyn Photography Exhibit: Featuring 11 predominantly Brooklyn-based photographers (1960-present), this exhibition will showcase Brooklyn’s hallmark cultural and social diversity.
Brooklyn Ballet | Open Rehearsals, Classes, and Exhibition: LED-Tutu Showcase and open rehearsals of The Brooklyn Nutcracker. There will also be ongoing discounted adult ballet classes. In partnership with The Actors Fund Arts Center.
Brooklyn Historical Society | Photo Exhibitions, Discussions and Free Fridays: Two exhibits will be on show; one on Prospect Park and the other on Jackie Robinson. There will also be a discussion on the legacy of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Free admission on Fridays will be offered.
BAM | Performances: Live performances running Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 7:30pm as a part of the 35th Anniversary Next Wave Festival. Performances include: Richard III, La grenouille avait raison (The Toad Knew), Saudade, /peh-LO-tah/, Mementos Mori.
Roulette | Festival: Roulette is hosting the opening night of the Austrian Cultural Forum’s (ACFNY) Moving Sounds Festival.
Issue Project Room | Performances: Austrian Cultural Forums NY will honor works by Eliane Radigue and host performances by Carol Robinson & Rhodri Davies, and Laetitia Sonami.
Roulette | Performances: Both the Issue Project Room and Roulette will also host performances as part of the Austrian Cultural Forums Moving Sounds Festival, including Ars Electronica / Eyebeam Edition: MSHR, YATTA, andBR-Laser.
UrbanGlass | Classes and Exhibitions: Ongoing exhibition and classes available at their studios. Discounts available at their shop in honor of Culture Forward.
LIU Kumble Theatre | Festival and Performances: The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and The Tierney Sutton Band performing from their album, The Sting Variations.
NY Transit Museum | Performances: PLATFORM, an exciting series of cross-disciplinary programs created by the public, will open to the public.
Building 92: Brooklyn Navy Yard Center | Heavy Metal Exhibition andArchtober Tours: The Brooklyn Navy Yards is hosting a number of tours of the area throughout Culture Forward, all leaving from Building 92, where there will also be an ongoing exhibit.
Mark Morris Dance Group | Classes: All adult drop-in classes at the Mark Morris Dance Center will be discounted to $10 (normally $17) throughout the Festival.
Recess | Open Studio: Assembly Fall 2017 Gallery Activation: Open Studio with Stephanie Dinkins.
Theatre for a New Audience | Tours: Polonsky Shakespeare Center Open Houses feature free guided tours of Theatre for a New Audience’s home, NYC’s first theatre built expressly for classical drama since 1965.
