The Archway Under the Manhattan Bridge is a public plaza in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It’s on Water St between Anchorage Place and Adams St.
Fueled by the belief that classic jazz feeds the heart and soul, the Hot Sardines are on a mission to make old sounds new again and prove that joyful music can bring people together in a disconnected world. Music first made famous decades ago comes alive through the group’s brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies, and vocals from a chanteuse who transports listeners to a different era. In the last two years, the Hot Sardines have been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival, have sold out New York City venues from Joe’s Pub to the Bowery Ballroom, performed more than 150 tour dates from Chicago to London, and have also released two albums on Universal Music Classics to critical raves, earning a No. 1 slot on the iTunes Jazz chart in the U.S. and internationally.
THE SWING DANCER:
Paolo Pasta Lana is a 20 year veteran of Swing Dance specializing in the Balboa, Boogie Woogie, Collegiate Shag, Charleston, Lindy Hop, and The Madison Time. Paolo and his original partner Janice Wilson were the first Dance Couple to TOUR with with Wynton Marsalis & The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and in 1998 they won the American Swing Dance Championships. They performed with shows “Swing Dance America” and “Forever Swing” The Musical Revue featuring Michael Buble. Paolo co-founded & presented The 1st Summer Jamboree Dance Camp in Italy, The Shake, Rhythm & Roll Festival in Asbury Park, and he’s the creative director of the Swing Remix dance spectacular in NYC.
An Aussie expat living in NYC, Natchie creates whimsical, art-naïf prints of city icons, like the Brooklyn Bridge, the High Line, the Empire State Building and the Literary Walk in Central Park. As a bonus, each print also features a free download of a song – inspired by the image – written and performed by Natchie.
The Space Station, by This Friday or Next Friday, premieres at this year’s Live at the Archway. Tfnf is likely the tiniest, most inconsequential art gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn, probably in NYC, and maybe on the face of the earth. It was founded by Nathan Sinai Rayman, and he runs it with Zach Seeger, his Director of Programs.
