Women Who Walked Ahead
March 31 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Trolley Tour Celebrates the Great Women of Green-Wood.
From the first black female doctor in New York State, Susan Smith McKinney Steward, to the first woman to sing on live radio, Eugenia Farrar, this trolley tour celebrates the pioneering women of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries who are now interred at Green-Wood. Additional notable women whose stories will be told include Caroline Weldon, a widowed Brooklyn artist who traveled to the Dakota Territory to become an assistant and liaison to Sitting Bull; Camilla Urso, the first woman violinist to perform solo in the United States; Emma Stebbins, the sculptor who crafted Angels of the Waters, located at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park; and others whose stories are remarkable and inspiring.
